WARPED REALITY

SERIES 1

scanned face 1

This image series titled Warped Reality explores fashion and the mundane with different techniques to warp fashion images. The series also looks at documenting my fashion Honours project. All images use different forms of scanning on my home Epson Perfection 4490 scanner. For my honours project I am using millinery straw to warp and distort stretch fabrics and this often creates very unexpected, unique outcomes and this is something I wanted to replicate in these image series. I fell in love with the unique shapes you could create by dragging objects and images along it whilst it scanned. This eventually informed my first image series where I used the scanner to warp my images, much like my Honours project, whilst contrasting the relationship between fashion and the mundane.

SERIES 2

The second image series also includes scans of images from my iPad but this time most images only have slight movements whilst scanning which creates a glitched effect. I have included images of object close-ups and garment details.

SERIES 3

Continuing the distorted theme from the first series, in the second series I have combined techniques to create extreme warped outcomes. I scanned the straw and placed it over an image I took of a model wearing my prototypes. I then used the liquify tool in photoshop to stretch the garment to the edges of the straw, making it look like the straw is controlling the distortion of the garments. This series was also informed by my honours project as it replicates the way the straw behaves on a smaller scale.
